Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is one of those special places that allow dogs in offices. It’s the ultimate dog-friendly workplace; dogs are not only welcomed in the offices of workers, they are encouraged.
Many office staff take dogs from the sanctuary to give them socialization experience as they prepare to be adopted.

Don’t even think about the Screen Actors Guild awards…
And even pass by the Oscars…
The awards show of early 2015 was the World Dog Awards, broadcast earlier this month on the CW Network in the USA.
Dog of the Year was Hank, the Ballpark Pup. Hank, a suspected Bichon Frise cross, made headlines last year when he wandered into the spring training camp of the Milwaukee Brewers professional baseball team. A veterinary check revealed that he may have been hit by a car. Outfitted in Brewers’ official gear, he became the team’s mascot. A children’s book, beach towel, and other merchandise have also been produced, with 20% of the proceeds going to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
The title “Dog of the Year” was given to honor the dog that made the most impact on popular culture during 2014. Hank received his Golden Hydrant statue from celebrity Paris Hilton.
While this award show may be seen my some as ‘over the top’ – Hank’s story helped to highlight the plight of homeless pets and the need for people to think ADOPTION first.

Today, I had a consult with a new client who also suddenly suffered the loss of her younger dog just a few days ago. Since I’ve been through my own loss of Daisy in July and I am now co-sponsoring a pet loss support group in my area, I think I was able to provide her with the understanding she needed at this painful time.
We also discussed when it is ‘right’ to bring another dog into the household. There is no single ‘right’ answer to this question.
For me, I was not doing well in a dog-less household. I missed the companionship and unconditional love that Daisy gave me willingly for over 10 years. But, I knew that replacing Daisy was never going to happen – she was unique. And I don’t believe we ever replace a dog that has passed; we only open our hearts to a new relationship.
I had to find a dog that needed me as much as I needed them.
This is my way of announcing the adoption of Izzy, a greyhound, from the Greyhounds as Pets adoption scheme.

Initially withdrawn and a bit overwhelmed at being in a pet home after over 5 1/2 years in a kennel environment, Izzy is now experiencing her second puppyhood. I have had a few household items destroyed (including a tv remote) and I’m learning to schedule play time for us at least twice daily (in addition to our twice-daily walks).
I am finding great joy in giving a home to a dog who didn’t have one. The time was right for a new pack member; I think Daisy loved me enough that she would approve.
In the months and years to come, I’ll be sharing stories about Izzy and our adventures together…but I have no plans to change the banner on this blog. Daisy was my heart dog and soul mate and it is a fitting tribute to keep her image on the advertising for DoggyMom.com.

King was the ‘pet of the week’ at a local Miami television station last week as part of a regular feature to help profile animals in need of a forever, adoptive home.
King managed to escape and make an entrance early – during the weather report. Here’s his live tv debut and notice that the weather forecast was completed in a professional manner…

When this came across my desk, I had to share it.
The Lost Dogs Home in Melbourne (Australia) came up with an adoption drive with a ‘twist’ this year. They started the Human Walking Project in downtown Melbourne.
Dogs needing adoption were brought into the central city to encourage office workers to escape their offices and walk with the dogs during their lunch breaks. And enough of them fell in love to adopt their new canine friends!

As the Christmas holiday is upon us, across the world there are special people who are working in animal shelters and rescues caring for homeless dogs. Let’s be thankful that these folks exist. If you are considering adding a dog to your pack, please think adoption first!

Christchurch based animal welfare charity K9 Rescue and Rehoming has paired well-muscled men with dogs available for adoption in their 2014 calendar.
Entitled Dogs and Dudes, this fundraising calendar includes photographs of New Zealand actors and other local celebrities who were willing to bare their bodies to support dog adoption.
The best way to organise a purchase is to contact Trisha through the organisation’s Facebook page. Calendars cost NZ$25
And dog owners get to enjoy a little beefcake all year long, combined with some really beautiful dog photos, too!
